DSTV Decoder Repair Across Gauteng

On-site diagnosis and repair of DSTV decoder faults including no signal, E16 errors, boot loops, HDMI failures and smartcard issues.

A dead or dying decoder is one of the most frustrating failures in the DSTV ecosystem because the symptoms can look identical to signal problems, cable problems, or a subscription hiccup. Before sending a decoder off for repair — which takes time and involves being without TV for days — it's worth having it diagnosed properly on site. About a third of the decoders our customers are sure have failed turn out to be software glitches, a corrupted smartcard, or a cable issue that can be fixed in the same visit.

For the decoders that really have failed, we do on-site repairs where the fault is something like a blown power supply, a loose hard drive connector on an Explora, or a swollen capacitor. These fixes take us under an hour and cost a fraction of a full decoder replacement. When a full board replacement is needed we send it to MultiChoice's authorised repair centre and loan you a replacement decoder in the meantime so you're not staring at a blank screen for a week.

Common questions

Is it worth repairing an older HD PVR?+

Usually not. Parts for the older HD PVRs are getting scarce, and the Explora's feature set is a big step up. We'll give you an honest recommendation on site.

Can you recover recordings from a failing Explora hard drive?+

Often, yes, if the drive still spins and reads. We copy what we can to an external drive before attempting any repair.

How much is a typical on-site repair?+

R550 to R950 depending on the fault, including the call-out. If the unit needs to go to the repair centre we quote the full job up front.

Typical pricing

Diagnostic call-out is R450 (credited against any repair you approve). On-site repairs typically run R550-R950 all-in. Board-level repairs at the authorised centre vary by decoder model.
